Technical Requirements for Laptop Usage

Hardware Requirements:
  • Laptop computer
  • 10baseT connection port (ethernet card)
  • Cat-5 patch cable with an RJ-45 plug
  • Software installed to allow the TCP/IP network protocol.
Using Windows XP or Vista
Go to Control Panel
  • Double Click on Network
  • Highlight TCP/IP
  • Click properties
  • Click on IP address tab
  • Click Radio button to Obtain IP address automatically
  • Be Sure to disable any Proxies
Software Requirements:
  • Any Internet application such as Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Outlook Express or any other application used to interact on the Internet.
Special Notes:
  • Laptop owners are responsible for resolving all technical issues on their equipment.
  • The Steele Memorial Library is not liable for any damaged caused to your laptop while in use at the Library
  • The library staff will not configure your laptop.
  • For your own protection we ask that you do not enable your laptop to be a file server.
